Metropolitan plans are commonly based on a system of suburban office clusters . The large variation among recent plans suggests a poor understanding of their nature and impacts . A taxonomy of office clusters could provide a necessary framework. Six hypotheses on the type, frequency, location, employment base and travel characteristics of suburban clusters were tested in a case-study of the Toronto region. Six physical types were identified and found to be associated with certain locations, employment activities and travel mode characteristics . The Toronto metropolitan plan was found to be successful when it conformed with these findings and unsuccessful when it did not. The results lead to provisional guidelines for future metropolitan plans .
"I think the intent (of the program) was to move businesses to New Jersey, not to move a company from one New Jersey location to another," said Gonelli. "It makes no sense. Why would you give them a tax credit to move from Secaucus to Newark? It's right down the road ... Read On
The International Centre for Sustainable Cities (ICSC) is part of Canada's response to Agenda-21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The Centre receives support from the Government of Canada and in collaboration with other organizations carries out demonstration projects promoting sustainable urbanization.
One of the first of these projects is the Georgia Basin Sustainable Urbanization Project. An initial report was released in March of 1994 (The Cascadia Institute and The Discovery Institute, 1994). It provided bi-national policy context, a snapshot of current initiatives, and a basis for further work. It identified sustainability, transportation, trade and economic development as issues for the region.

Investors are increasingly interested in corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investing (Hill et al. 2007, Schueth 2003). Since the 1970s, socially responsible investing, or efforts to maximize both financial return and social good, has grown into a global movement (Louche and Lydenberg 2006). Over 360 asset owners, investment managers and financial service providers, representing over $15 trillion in assets under management, have signed the UN Principles for Responsible Investment which “help investors integrate consideration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making and ownership practices” (Principles for Responsible Investment 2008).
The application of responsible investing and corporate social responsibility to the property sector has come to be called Responsible Property Investing (Mansley 2000, McNamara 2000, Newell and Acheampong 2002, Boyd 2005, Lutzkendorf and Lorenz 2005, Newell 2008, Pivo…
