Reconnecting America's Abigail Thorne Lyman, Director, Center for Transit-Oriented Development, and Reconnecting America Project Director Chris Yake will be in Seattle June 11 for a work session with Growing Transit Communities and the Puget Sound Regional Council. Participants in the session will be working on the creation of a typology framework.

The report offers guidelines for providing access to rapid transit stations, describes a station access planning process, and provides a high-level station access planning tool.

Reconnecting America Project Director Chris Yake will be discussing "How station area typology can drive decisions" at the March 29 Futurewise's Transit-Oriented Communities Brownbag Series in Seattle. From the organization's website: "Futurewise's Transit-Oriented Communities: A Blueprint for Washington State publication and the Seattle Planning Commission's Seattle Transit Communities report are the first two attempts at typology in the region. And right now the Puget Sound Regional Council is in the midst of its own typology process to evaluate the north, east, and south corridors of the light rail extensions. TCRP Report 153: Guidelines for Providing Access to Public Transportation Stations provides a process and spreadsheet-based tool for effectively planning for access to high capacity transit stations, including commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, bus rapid transit (BRT), and ferry. The report is accompanied by a CD that includes the station access planning spreadsheet tool that allows trade-off analyses among the various access modes (automobile, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit-oriented development) for different station types. The potential effectiveness of transit-oriented development opportunities to increase transit ridership is also assessed.
