Nine Developers Interested in Walter Reed Overhaul

One of the District's vaunted mega-development projects took a step forward this afternoon with the announcement that nine developers responded to the request for qualifications for the Walter Reed campus overhaul.
Reconnecting America Policy Director Sarah Kline will be a panelist March 21 in a lunch briefing on the resiliency of residential real estate values located in areas well-connected by public transportation. The briefing is put on by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
"Public Markets: Anchors for Neighborhood Economic Development," the 2010 report from Reconnecting America's CTOD partner, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, has been added to the Research Center's best practices database. The report notes that sustainable employment growth comes from business creation, and public markets play a critical role as local business incubators. Attractive markets anchor a business district, the authors explain, and bring in a greater number of customers. The report includes case studies from the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, Eastern Market Detroit, Easter Market DC and Pike Place Market.
Reconnecting America Policy Director Sarah Kline will be a panelist at a forum exploring options for financing America's infrastructure that is being put on by Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, who represents Connecticut’s 3rd District. The forum will bring together a wide range of individuals with expertise in private finance, innovative government approaches to infrastructure development at the federal, state and local level, and labor and business initiatives to enhance America's infrastructure. Kline's panel will discuss Stakeholder Views on Infrastructure development. She will be joined by Tom Trotter, Legislative Affairs representative for the AFL-CIO; Janet Kavinoky, Executive Director of Transportation and Infrastructure for the US Chamber of Commerce; and Dr. William R. Buechner, Vice President for Economics and Research, American Road & Transportation Builders Association.
