Sharing Spaces

"Shared space" is an urban design concept that merges all of the functions of a street by removing the conventional traffic signals, barriers, signs and road markings. Pedestrians maintain the legal right of way, but vehicles continue to have access to the area. The video below describes the "shared spaces" concept that has been proposed in the Auckland, New Zealand, central business district.
