Creating Healthy Communities
The International Making Cities Livable (IMCL) Movement will holds its 48th Annual Conference in Charleston, SC, from Oct. 17 to 21. Reconnecting America is a sponsor of the conference.
The conference will focus on how to create healthy communities, and how to improve children's health and development by improving the built environment.
"We can all benefit from living in a walkable, bikable neighborhood in a city of short distances; children especially need independent mobility on safe streets, and daily access to nature and community," said Suzanne H. Crowhurst Lennard, director of the IMCL Council.
The principles of the International Making Cities Livable Movement, initiated in 1985 to make our cities and communities more livable, have become part of a national US agenda, and are being applied by many cities in Europe and other parts of the world.
