US DOT Cites Partnership With CTOD In 2009 Record Of Accomplishment

The U.S. Department has released its 2009 Record of Accomplishment, and it includes implementation of the Economic Recovery Act, called “the most ambitious infrastructure investment program in more than half a century, creation of the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant program, and a number of other initiatives including the Federal Transit Administration’s work with the Center for Transit-Oriented Development.

The document highlighted U.S. DOT’s efforts to promote “livability,” including the DOT-HUD-EPA partnership to encourage transit-oriented development: “FTA and HUD are working together to address barriers to transit-oriented development at the local and regional level . . . FTA has been working with the Center for Transit-Oriented Development and HUD to develop an online database which includes information on land available for development near more than 4,000 existing and planned rail/transit stations.”

The document also cited CTOD’s “Mixed-Income TOD Action Guide,” which will soon be available online and is intended to help planners implement mixed-income transit-oriented development and regional transit corridor planning efforts (see story below). The Center for TOD is a partnership of Reconnecting America, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and Strategic Economics.
